Overview

This has to be one of the most interesting. and beautiful guitars of all time. The L-4 was priced at $150 during its launch. As you can imagine it was not an entry level purchase by any means, surpassed by the much gradnier L-5 only.
With it's carved top in velvet red finish and adornment of it's pearl-like dots around the rosette, it was truly a sight to behold. These were produced during the famous "Loar Era" at Kalamazoo, Michigan. It was exciting times with Gibson having great success with their first signature Nick Lucas models. The L-4 found its niche amongst many jazz greats such as Eddie Lang and Freddy Guy to name a few. It has many features that were revolutionary during it's time, such as a chunky "V" neck, adjustable ebony bridge and some of the earliest instruments with an adjustable truss rod. These instruments were made to perform and last, preceding other great builders in adopting steel string setups, that prove to be a hit with it's powerful projection and voice.
